Court of Honor

The spring Court of Honor will be held Tuesday evening, March 21, at 7:00 pm at O'Donnell Center, American Martyrs Church. The boys will be receiving their hard-earned rank advancements, hiking awards, merit badges, etc.

This is a FAMILY event. We encourage all Troop 849 families to attend this event! Parental support and acknowledgement of awards earned is a key factor in the long term success of your son's Scouting experience. PLEASE COME!

Summer Camp

The second $110 deposit for Emerald Bay is due by Tuesday, March 21. Bring it to the Court of Honor that night. There are still a few spots open for this fantastic camp on Catalina Island. If your son has not signed up but is thinking about going, contact Asst. Scoutmaster Bruce Powell.

Catalina Backpack

Thanks to the great planning efforts of Asst. Scoutmaster Rick Reeley, Troop 849 will be backpacking for three days on Catalina Island, Saturday - Monday, April 8-10 (the first weekend of Spring Break). Cost will be $60 per person which includes the boat rides back and forth. Sign up sheets are available now. Contact Rick for more details.

Eagle Scout Project

Matt Monahan is planning to do his Eagle Scout project on Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26. Matt will be fixing up trails and historical sites in the Mt. Lowe area of the Angeles National Forest. Volunteer workers (both boys and adults) are needed for each day. Matt will have more information and a sign-up sheet at the Court of Honor. It will be a great project and it provides the boys with opportunities to earn service hours and Trail Saver patches. Please participate!

Troop Dues

The Troop Committee has changed its mind concerning the new amount for annual dues. Dues will be raised from $12 per year to $24 (instead of the previously announced $35). In addition to this increase, we will be asking all Troop 849 families during the re-registration process next fall to consider donating an additional amount to the Troop if they feel financially able to do so. In addition to the funds needed to purchase patches and awards, the Troop needs a great deal of equipment to maintain its busy program. The Committee believes that this increase in dues along with some friendly donations (and of course the annual Hometown Fair booth) will allow the Troop to maintain adequate equipment resources for our 90+ boys. If you have any questions about this change, please contact Don McLellan.
